Go Red For Women!


Heart Disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the United States. It claims more lives than all forms of cancer combined, claiming the life of approximately one woman every minute! When I read that I realized, "I don't even know much about heart disease in women." Do you? For instance, did you know that 90% of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease? Or, that 1 in 3 women lose their lives to heart disease each year, while 1 in 31 American women die from breast cancer? Crazy right?

Many things can put you at risk for heart disease, some you can control, and others that you can’t...hello, some we can control...let's focus on that! Studies over the years have shown that healthy choices result in over 300 fewer women dying from heart disease per day. Below are a few lifestyle changes you should make starting now!



  • Don't smoke
  • Manage your blood sugar
  • Get your blood pressure under control
  • Lower your cholesterol
  • Know your family history
  • Stay active
  • Lose weight
  • Eat healthy

There’s much more research and effort to be done before heart disease becomes a thing of the past. The American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women movement advocates for more research for women’s heart health for this very reason.
